A small crowd marching past consultants and their $3,000 fee, led by the Bluetail fox toward NDIS registration

The Bluetail community

This was never really about a document pack.

Hi, I’m James. I started Bluetail to do one simple thing: make becoming a registered NDIS provider something you can actually do yourself, without paying thousands of dollars for the privilege. If that sounds like something worth being part of, you’re very welcome here - whether you ever buy a single thing or not.

Why I started

Right now, if you want to register as an NDIS provider, the message you get almost everywhere is the same: this is complicated, it’s risky, and you need to pay a consultant to do it for you. The going rate for that “registration assistance” sits around $3,000, and often a good deal more. For a sole trader or a small team just trying to do good work, that’s a genuinely disgusting amount of money to hand over before you’ve earned a cent.

And here’s the part that bothers me most: a huge slice of what you’re paying for is a set of policies and templates, dressed up to look far harder than it really is. It doesn’t need to cost that. It shouldn’t. The barrier isn’t the paperwork - it’s the fog around it, and the people who profit from keeping it foggy.

What I’m building

So I’m building the alternative, out in the open.

  • The document pack. The policies, agreements, forms and registers a small provider is expected to have, pre-filled with your details. It started at $30 and it’ll always stay close to free, because the documents were never the hard part. I’m constantly going back over them to keep them genuinely robust and current as the rules change, and every update is free for everyone who’s signed up.
  • A full compliance and CRM system. Participants, workers, rosters, shift notes, incidents, audit readiness - the day-to-day evidence the NDIS Practice Standards actually ask for. When it’s finished, I’m opening it up free to everyone here. The only thing you’ll ever have to pay for is the audit itself, which isn’t mine to give away.
  • I’m doing it myself, in public. I’m registering a brand-new provider from scratch using nothing but these tools, no consultant, and recording the whole thing start to finish - the application, the policies, the evidence, the audit. So you can watch exactly how it’s done and walk the same path.

You don’t have to buy anything to be part of this

If the pack helps you, brilliant. But honestly, even if you never spend a dollar, I’d love you here. Sign up and I’ll keep you in the loop as I build - new documents, the CRM launch, the registration recordings, and anything I learn along the way that might save you time, money or stress.

The more of us there are, the harder it is for anyone to keep pretending this has to be expensive and frightening. That’s the whole idea.

Some of the first words back

Love that it's in Word, not PDF, so I can tailor it for me as a sole trader.

This came at a very serendipitous time. I'm in the process of registering as an NDIS business for Behaviour Support and Therapy services, and your policies and procedures have been an absolute life saver. From a 3am spontaneous decision 15 days ago to start my own business, to being ready to engage the auditor, I cannot thank you enough for opening up these resources.

Easy to access, downloaded with no issues, and the documents came out clear.

I loved being able to add my own details to the pack, it saved a significant amount of time. A fabulous resource, and much appreciated at this time.

As someone preparing for NDIS registration, I was stressing about making sure I had crossed every 't' and dotted every 'i'. The document pack honestly took a huge weight off my shoulders. The documents are comprehensive, professionally presented, and have clearly been put together by people who understand the industry. An outstanding starting point.
